The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) 511 Traveler Information System is a free phone and Internet resource that provides English and Spanish real-time traffic information on all Florida interstate highways, Florida’s Turnpike and major metropolitan roadways in the state. The statewide system provides information on commuter travel times, construction, lane closures, crashes, congestion and severe weather affecting traffic. Callers can also access public transit, airport and seaport information. In the event of an emergency, 511 provides information on road closures and evacuation information.
FDOT traffic information is available on the Web at FL511.com or on a Web-enabled mobile device at mobile.FL511.com. Web users can access the same detailed traffic information as calling 511, plus additional travel features in English and Spanish, including hundreds of still or streaming roadway camera images.
Web users can go to the My Florida 511 tab on FL511.com and create a free account, then set up custom routes and register to receive alerts. Signing up for alerts allows users to automatically receive important traffic information via a phone call, text message or e-mail. Users can program alerts for certain roadways or entire regions of Florida, their own custom routes or receive floodgate messages that announce important incidents such as wildfires and hurricanes or Amber, Silver and Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) alerts. Once an alert is programmed, the user chooses how (phone call, text or e-mail), which days of the week and times they want to receive the alert.
511 traveler information is collected and continually updated by Traffic Management Centers (TMCs) throughout the state. The data comes from sensors in and alongside roads, traffic surveillance cameras, and reports from Florida Highway Patrol, local law enforcement and Road Rangers.
511 is a free resource. Users can call 511 or access FL511.com 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, users should be aware that cell phone minutes and text message charges may apply.
